March Madness, or the “Big Dance”, is here! The NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship that dates back to 1939 has undergone numerous changes and experienced many great memories since that first tournament. It is one of the most watched annual sporting events in the United States. In 1985, the Villanova Wildcats defeated the Georgetown Hoyas, 66-64. They were the 8th seed when they were crowned the 1985 National Champions. The second lowest was when the 7th seed North Carolina State won the tournament.
2) What school has won the most NCAA titles?
The UCLA Bruins have the most NCAA Championships, with 11 total titles. They were crowned champs in 1964, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, and 1995. John Wooden was the coach when UCLA won 10 of their 11 titles. Following UCLA is Kentucky with 8, Indiana University and the University of North Carolina tied with 5 titles each.
3) What was the most amount of points scored by a single player in a tournament?
Glen Rice, in 1989 scored 184 for the University of Michigan during their national championship run. He was also voted the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
4) What was the lowest seed to ever to make the Final Four?
Four 11th seeds have advanced to the Final Four. Those teams were LSU in 1986, George Mason in 2006, VCU in 2011 and Wichita State in 2013.
